Eighteen Years Since Plainfield Tornado
|
Today marks the 18th anniversary of the Plainfield Tornado in 1990 that cost 29 people their lives. Mayor Jim Waldorf, who was principal at Plainfield High School at the time (now Plainfield Central), says anyone affected by that storm thinks about it on this date every year. He also says that in looking back on Plainfield's growth in population since then from five-thousand to 35-thousand, there is no doubt that a lot of Plainfield's growth was affected by people noticing how well Plainfield recovered from that storm, and was able to move on. He says there are few Plainfield residents not aware of the relationship between that tragic tornado, and the growth that has occured since then. |
