Expert Help Could Key Collins Street Prison Prison Project

A Crystal Lake based company has been invited to advise the City of Joliet about a development project at the Collins Street prison.  State Senator A J Wilhelmi, who serves on the Collins Task Force, says this company could take its experience re-developing naval bases and apply those ideas to a Collins Street prison mixed-use project.  The hope is that it would be a project including tourism and retail opportunities, with the prison's main building and other historic structures remaining intact.  Joliet City Council Land Use Committee chairman Joe Shetina says he's hoping the Crystal Lake operation can be brought before the full City Council soon, with the proposal of being an official advisor.
