Village of Plainfield Eyes New Bridge, Shopping, and Administrator
The Plainfield Village Board has approved an agreement with Plainfield Township for a long talked about new Renwick Road Bridge over the DuPage River. The Village Board has agreed to go along with the Township's preference for a low-level two-lane bridge to replace the old one-lane bridge. This bridge would not include a grade separation from the nearby Canadian National railroad tracks, which some previous Plainfield Village Trustees had hoped for. But Mayor Mike Collins told 1340 WJOL News that "after 21 years of negotiations, it was time to get off the stump and move forward."
Meanwhile, Mayor Collins says discussions are continuing on the planned Boulevard shopping complex for northwest of the I-55 - U S 30 interchange. This would replace the current Citgo Truck Stop, and would be a joint venture between Plainfield and Joliet. Collins says although this project has been a bit on the back-burner due to the economic times, discussions are continuing, and cooperation between Plainfield and Joliet is just fine.
Plainfield will soon be getting a new village administrator, as the Village Board has approved the hiring of Brian P Murphy. Murphy is currently working as Assistant City Manager of Troy, Michigan.
