Channahon Mother Killed by Son in Murder-Suicide
A 61 year old mother shot by her son in Channahon yesterday has been pronounced dead at Provena Saint Joseph Medical Center due to a gunshot wound to her head. Her name has not been released by the Coroner's office, but her 34 year old son Vincent Panici had been identified as the gunman in the murder-suicide, and was pronounced dead at 1:13 PM Thursday afternoon in the family home in the 26200 block of West Highland Drive. Police first received the call at 11:30 AM, after a 9-1-1 call was made by a cleaning lady. The 61 year old mother was found in the basement with the gunshot wound. Vincent Panici was also found in the basement, pronounced dead at the scene due to an apparant self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. A shotgun was found near his body.
